My lovely little man, Zachary Gabriel Cohen, was born on January 15th.

When I’ve had a chance to take a break from smooching or changing or watching or sleeping with him, the two most indispensable lenses have been the 35L and 100L IS. In the recovery room. I used a pillow to reflect window light onto baby with grandparents (35mm) and then switched to the macro for a close-up of the little guy sleeping.

Here’s the little man making faces in his sleep. Obviously the 100mm for the first three, and the last few using the 35mm.

Here are shots of body parts using both the 35 and the 100. In the first two shots, I’m shooting with one hand and holding his hand with the other. Fun!

I like that these lenses are fast and have short minimum focusing distances. The IS has been a lifesaver in low light situations.

I don’t think there are “wrong” lenses for shooting newborns, but I’m tickled at the results I’m getting with these two options.
